PREPARING FOR MOVING DAY

 

One to Two Month's Before Moving

 

  • Call Mobility Moving for a Free Estimate.
  • Have a garage sale.
  • Call Good Will or other local charities for pick up of unwanted items.
  • Start packing storage and basement or attic areas.
  • Notify your post office of change of address and locate your new postal code for mail forwarding and change of address cards
  • Reserve elevator if moving from an apartment

 

Two Week’s Before Moving

 

  • Prepare a floor plan for your new home.
  • Plan menus to use up perishables in your home.
  • Arrange care for young children and pets during the busy days of packing, loading and moving in.

 

One Week Before Moving

 

  • Time to start packing your house up but keep the essentials handy for meals, personal care etc. These are commonly referred to as “last pack” items.
  • Prepare a list of items you will need immediately upon arriving at your destination such as flashlight, light bulbs, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, snacks and drinks.  Pack these last and unload them first along with your “last pack” items and necessities such as crib and or playpen for example.
  • Drain fuel from lawnmower and other machinery.
  • Safely dispose of all gasoline, matches, paints and aerosol cans as these are prohibited from being transported by Mobility Moving.

 

Moving Day

 

  • Ensure you have the keys ready for your new home.
    Be on hand when your moving crew arrives to show them what goes and doesn’t go.
  • if you have any questions they should be directed to the driver as he is the main contact on your day of move.
  • Advise the driver of any items you will need immediately at your destination, and as mentioned above they will be loaded last and unloaded first.
  • Double check closets, shelves, attic and garage to be sure they are empty.
  • Carry important documents and jewelry yourself.
    Ensure movers have all your destination details including cell phone number etc.
  • Keep children and pets safely aside during your move to prevent injury and ensure a safe surrounding during your move.

 

After Arriving at Your New Home

 

  • Be on hand to accept delivery and if you are unable please ensure someone is there on your behalf.  This person should know where your items will go in your new home, as per your floor plan.
  • Be near the truck or entrance to tell the movers where to put your items as they are unloaded.
  • If you have hardwood floors have felt pads ready for the bottom of your furniture.
